As a fledgling business we wanted to start on the right foot and do as much as possible. That is why we decided to package our beers in cans (rather than bottles) and also with paper labels (not plastic). I use materials that are as environmentally friendly as possible wherever I can - including paper tape on our packaging. As well as this we are also Carbon Positive 💚
We wanted to build in carbon offsetting from the start so it’s part of Jiddler’s Tipple DNA. Consequently, we decided to offset 25% more carbon than Jiddler’s Tipple produces so that we can not only “wipe our face”, but also give something back.
In order to choose a high quality offsetting project we worked with an sustainability consultant. We identified TIST (The International Small Group and Tree Planting Program) as one of the best for two reasons.
Firstly, the carbon credits have been validated and audited so the carbon has already been captured and removed from the atmosphere. Unlike other projects where offsetting is pledged or promised, where you risk it being unfulfilled.
Secondly, the TIST farmers receive 70% of the net profits from the sale of the credits ensuring the money from carbon offsetting is going back to the farmers local economy which significantly helps their standard of living.
